Details: Would you like to work with passionate volunteers and be able to support them in protecting our community from the impacts of fire? The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) is currently recruiting for a Membership Officer to join our team. Our dedicated volunteers do an amazing job and are the heart of our service. The ACTRFS Membership Officer plays a key role in supporting the volunteer workforce.

Brief description of the Business Unit/Branch/Section):

The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) is responsible for community safety, the protection of people, property and the environment from bushfire. ACTRFS provides supporting resources to the broader ACTESA Services to achieve integrated emergency management response. As part of its role the ACTRFS undertakes a comprehensive range of community education and awareness programs.

ACTRFS primary function is to provide a community-based service, resulting in the minimalization of preventable fire fatalities and casualties, damage to property and the environment, from bushfire. The ACTRFS manages and facilitates a strong volunteer member-base and maintains a close working relationship with other emergency services with the ESA portfolio.

Brief description of the role and its requirements:

Under direction from the Assistant Director- Volunteer Training and Membership (ACTRFS), The ACTRFS Membership Officer is responsible for coordinating recruitment, retention and recognition activities for the volunteer membership, as well as service-level volunteer engagement activities. The ACTRFS Membership Officer is also responsible for maintaining membership data and operating systems and the volunteer portal main contributing to the management and support of the membership. and support.

You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to build sustainable, positive and productive working relationships. You will be a highly organised self-starter who is able to respond efficiently to business needs, meet tight timeframes, demonstrate initiative and sound judgement.

Working collaboratively with the Volunteer Training Team, you will also contribute to the delivery of advice, coaching, and mentoring to volunteers regarding capability and skills development.

  • Background in working or volunteering in an emergency services organisation is highly desirable.
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to: Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • Background and Security clearance checks will be conducted including National Police Records Check.
  • Minimum 'C' Class driver's licence is essential.
  • Work after hours and on weekends, including attending meetings, local Brigade visits, and through periods of heightened operational response.
  • Willingness to assist in supporting operational responses to emergency incidents including outside of normal working hours.

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
