Invasive Species Support Officer

This position has a strong focus on the Watergum Cane Toads Challenge. The Watergum Cane Toads Challenge provides community cane toad control education, training, products and activities on a local and national scale. The successful applicant will deliver on-ground activities for the community, as well as promote our national awareness program and facilitate the sales of Watergum's cane toad tadpole trapping products via our national retail distribution network.

This position will support collection and processing of live and frozen cane toads and the logistics of making the cane toad products in our cane toad lab as well as the other operational work involved in Invasive Species Program. The position will work closely with and report to the Contracts Manager and training will be provided at the start of their employment.

This position is suited to someone passionate about protecting the environment and our Australian native wildlife through the control of invasive species and is not afraid to get their hands dirty

Responsibilities and duties

·       Support the delivery of community engagement work in the invasive species programs

·       Support the delivery of the Great Cane Toad Bust event

·       Support the collection and processing of live and frozen cane toads

·       Create cane toad products in our custom laboratory as well as packaging products

·       Support sales of cane toad products and training

·       Assist with preparation of on ground works.

·       Maintain a clean and safe workplace, abide by workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

·       Data entry and report writing.

·       Work closely with all team members.

·       Other tasks as directed.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications

·       Drivers License – C Class

Desirable qualifications

·       Qualifications preferably in environmental or related area

·       Blue Card

·       First Aid

Desirable experience

·       Microsoft office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

·       Experience with Microsoft Teams

·       Delivering workshops

·       Work in invasive species control programs

·       Experience working in a laboratory environment

·       Basic report writing skills
