About the role

YPRL is currently seeking a fixed term part-time Art Gallery Invigilator & Customer Service Officer to provide high-quality customer service and operational support across all YPRL and Art Gallery 275 at Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub gallery, ensuring a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for all visitors, in accordance with regional policies and procedures.

The role requires commitment to and provision of excellent service and programs through:

  • Communicating courteously and effectively, offering accurate information on library services, collections, and gallery exhibitions.
  • Providing a warm and welcoming environment for visitors to the library and gallery, ensuring they get the most from their visit. Being the first point of contact for visitors and answering any queries.

  • Ensuring the safety and security of artworks on display, including ensuring visitors remain a safe distance from artworks, by monitoring visitor behaviour, CCTV feeds, and climate conditions.

  • Support library operations including self-service assistance, circulation, and collection maintenance.

  • Contribute to program delivery, promotional activities, community engagement, and the growth of membership and usage.

  • Respond calmly and professionally to safety, security, or customer service incidents, including emergency situations.

  • Support and guide rostered gallery volunteers during shifts.

  • Record visitation numbers and assist with program evaluation and reporting.

  • Open and close the gallery, including responsibility for arming/disarming security alarms.

  • Actively contribute to a positive team environment through participation in planning, meetings, and training.

About You:

You're a proactive and community-minded individual with a strong focus on customer service. Whether supporting library visitors or gallery patrons, you respond to diverse needs with professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency.

You have a passion for promoting reading and literacy, backed by strong Readers Advisory skills and a broad knowledge of literature. Your experience in collection maintenance ensures items are well-organised and accessible, and you're comfortable assisting with basic reference inquiries.

Confident using technology, you're proficient with Microsoft Office, internet tools, email, and social media platforms. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills enable you to engage effectively with both the public and your team, whether working independently or collaboratively.

You follow procedures carefully and remain calm under pressure, able to respond effectively to security or emergency situations. Importantly, you're flexible and reliable, with the availability to work across a 7-day roster, including regular weekends.

Roster

Weeks 1-4

Wednesday: 1pm- 9.15pm (Flex Shift) 

Friday: 9.45pm- 5.15pm  

Saturday: 9.45pm- 5.15pm  

Sunday: 9.45pm- 5.15pm 

This flex shift is based at Ivanhoe Library however you will be required to work at any of YPRL's service points and your actual starting point for each shift will be according to a roster which will be provided to you in accordance with the requirements of the Enterprise Agreement.
