The opportunity

General Steel, a leading manufacturer of high-quality steel products, is seeking an experienced Heavy Metal Fabricator to join our team in Caringbah, NSW. This full-time role is a key position within our growing operation, responsible for the fabrication and assembly of complex metal structures to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to fabricate metal components and assemblies
  • Operate a variety of metalworking machinery and tools including welding equipment, grinders, and power tools
  • Perform precision cutting, shaping, and joining of metal parts to assemble final products
  • Ensure all work meets quality and safety standards
  • Collaborate with the production team to troubleshoot issues and find solutions
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to less experienced team members

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Heavy Metal Fabricator or similar role in the trades and services industry
  • Strong skills in welding, cutting, and metal fabrication techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to working safely and maintaining a clean work area
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Relevant trade qualifications or certifications
