As our 
Assistant Director – Workplace Relations
, you'll play a pivotal role in advancing HIA's industrial relations strategy — guiding members, shaping policy, and driving advocacy efforts that make a real difference in the residential building sector.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Championing Members:
     Deliver expert advice and training, tackle complex queries, and create engaging content that keeps our members informed and empowered.
  • Driving Advocacy:
     Represent HIA in government and regulatory forums, craft compelling submissions, and influence legislative outcomes through strategic engagement and industrial representation.
  • Shaping Policy:
     Monitor industrial instruments and regulatory developments, develop forward-thinking strategies, and ensure HIA's voice is heard loud and clear in policy circles.
  • Collaborating for Impact:
     Work closely with Legal, Communications, and Membership teams, and lead cross-functional initiatives that align with HIA's broader goals.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Legal or IR qualifications with an unrestricted legal practicing certificate.
  • Strong understanding of modern awards and Australian workplace relations legislation.
  • Proven experience in advocacy, policy development, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
  • Bonus points for experience in member-based organisations or the housing/construction industry
