As a key member of the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory (MDU PHL), you will have the opportunity to engage in groundbreaking microbiological investigations and contribute to public health advancements. Your responsibilities will include:
Conducting Microbiological Investigations: Process samples for microorganism detection, isolation, and confirmation using biochemical, serological, and molecular tests.
Ensuring Safety and Compliance: Handle organisms safely as per MDU guidelines and adhere to OHS and EH&S responsibilities.
Collaborating in Research and Reporting: Assist in project management, attend team meetings, and manage tasks to meet project objectives.

Have completed an undergraduate degree in a relevant science discipline.

The Microbiological Diagnostic Unit (MDU PHL) is a public health laboratory for the Department of Health, Victoria situated within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne. The MDU has been established for over 100 years on External State Government funding.
As part of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences since 2015, the School of Biomedical Sciences comprises three Departments, Departments of Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology, and Microbiology and Immunology . It has 85 research groups across the three departments, awarding-winning teachers and more than 2500 equivalent full-time student enrolments each year.
