JOB DESCRIPTION
Liverpool City Council has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Senior Environmental Health Officer to be part of a dynamic team responsible for protecting, promoting and enhancing environmental health standards within the Liverpool Local Government area.
The successful applicant will primarily be responsible for the management of Council's On-site Sewage Management (OSMS) program. Other functions of this position include but are not limited to the regulatory inspection of food premises, skin penetration premises, hairdressers, cooling towers, swimming and spa pools, on-site sewage managements systems, environmental pollution investigations, public health complaints as well as the assessment of air, noise, contaminated land and wastewater reports.
This includes the collection of evidence for the preparation of warning letters, Improvement and Prohibition notices, breach reports, issuing Penalty Infringement Notices and statements of evidence, and briefing legal counsel.
You will be flexible to work outside core working hours (when required), including after hour night inspections and weekend inspections of temporary events.
ABOUT YOU
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health or equivalent
- Current Class C Drivers Licence
- Extensive experience in the assessment, approval, regulation and management of domestic and commercial OSMS
- Experience in the investigation, monitoring and inspection of premises to ensure compliance with public and environmental health standards
- Understanding of the role and responsibilities of Local Government in relation to regulation of public and environmental health
- Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation associated with environmental health including the Local Government Act 1993, Food Act 2003, Public Health Act 2010, Protection of the Environmental Operations Act 1997 and regulations thereunder.
- Understanding the purpose of and the ability to interpret and implement legislation
- Ability to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to successfully implement and conduct environmental health education programs
- Plumbing qualifications and experience desirable but not essential
