The NSW Government is committed to providing the homes that young people, families and workers need through reforms that are designed to streamline planning approvals for major housing developments. To make this happen as quickly as possible, the Housing Delivery Authority | Planning (HDA) is leading a new streamlined State Significant Development (SSD) pathway and concurrent rezoning process.

The roles

Team Leader Assessments

No two days are the same We are looking for a dynamic and motivated leader to lead a team of Planning Assessment professionals and coordinate the effective, high quality and timely environmental assessment of State significant projects. Working on a wide range of complex and contentious state significant projects, you will be building relationships with various stakeholders including external agencies and the community while managing their different and often competing interests.

Bring your ideas to the table In this interesting and dynamic role, you will be driving best practice and focussing on business improvement as well as identifying and resolving emerging issues. Recommending changes to the assessment system to significantly reduce the time taken to assess State significant projects without sacrificing the delivery of quality outcomes of these assessments, you will ensure the completion of all assessments within the relevant benchmark period to provide greater certainty for applicants and the community and maintain the integrity of the Government's planning program.

Team Leader Assessments (Design Excellence)

Design excellence is a vital outcome for our State significant projects. We are looking for an experienced and motivated design expert to provide advice across our team, ensuring high quality design outcomes for all our projects. Working with applicants and their architects on a wide range of projects, you will build working relationships and raise awareness of design excellence. You will also liaise directly with the State Design Review Panels and the Panels for alternative design excellence strategies as needed. You will be working in a fast-paced, outcomes-focused environment to achieve great design outcomes for residents and local communities, while ensuring timely completion of all assessments.

What you will bring to the

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with team members and prepare high quality reports.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities to navigate complex challenges and adapt to evolving situations.

  • Proven leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve shared goals.
  • Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills, fostering strong relationships and ensuring alignment with diverse stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant environmental assessment and planning legislation and processes

What is an essential requirement:

  • Degree in planning, environmental management, engineering or other relevant discipline
  • Willingness to travel and (minimum) Class C Driver's Licence
