The Role: Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council is seeking a Baker to take over the running of our Pormpuraaw Bakery and to provide the community with freshly baked breads, pies and pastries. Reporting to the Business Development Manager, the Baker will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day food operations of the council bakery, to ensure the community is provided with fresh baked goods, in accordance with food safety principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all operations of the bakery to ensure an appropriate range of baked goods is available to the community.
  • Applying technical skills such as dough preparation, baking techniques, and equipment operation to provision fresh bakery items
  • Ensure cost effectiveness of bakery goods sold.
  • Oversee stock management and inventory to minimise shrinkage.
  • Implementing and maintaining food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Ensuring the provision of high-level customer service
  • Developing and implementing marketing strategies to effect growth of the bakery
  • Supervising, mentoring and training of staff through applying current human resource practices.
  • Meet deadlines and targets as set by the Business Development Manager

Skills and Experience:

  • Certificate III in Bakery will be highly regarded
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
  • Current Qld Driver's license desirable
  • Demonstrated experience as a baker in a catering operation
  • Ability to complete duties and tasks unsupervised
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
