The Position

CRS is recruiting a Counsellor for a position based in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) to work in the Supporting Adolescent Boys Trial. The trial is funded through the Department of Social Services to support young men and adolescent boys aged between 12 and 18 who have experienced Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) and are at risk of, or are using, violence. Counselling is provided through a culturally safe and responsive, trauma and healing-informed lens, with support tailored to the individual needs and circumstances of the young person.

The position suits a registered Counsellor, Social Worker, Psychologist or similar with experience in trauma informed practice and a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

This is a part-time position.

Selection Criteria

  • Professional registration with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) or the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
  • Demonstrated experience providing individual counselling support.
  • Experience working with young people and families within a culturally responsive, trauma-informed framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively with relevant external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of a range of evidenced based and/or therapeutic approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people who have experienced Family Domestic Sexual Violence.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to safeguarding children, youth and vulnerable people.

Desirable

  • Experience in providing counselling to both young people and adults
  • Experience working in an outreach capacity

Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about working in the community sector and have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or the equivalent
  • Minimum three years' experience in providing counselling services
  • Experience in working with young people and/or in the Family Domestic Sexual Violence Sector

CRS Staff Must Have

  • Full driver's licence.
  • WWVP (Working with Vulnerable People) clearance. Must be current prior to employment
  • National Police Check.
