Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) is the peak body for sports medicine and sports science in Australia. We bring together professionals, researchers, and practitioners to improve health, wellbeing, and safety in sport and physical activity.

We are seeking a 
Communications and Marketing Manager
 to plan, develop, and deliver campaigns and communications that drive engagement across our membership, events, publications, and partnerships.

This role is perfect for a strategic, hands-on communicator who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to make an impact in the sports and health sector.

Key responsibilities

  • Campaigns:
     Develop and deliver targeted campaigns across email and social channels to promote courses, membership, and key initiatives. Provide strategic oversight and hands-on support for SMA's paid digital advertising activities.
  • Events & Conference:
     Lead marketing and promotional activities for SMA's national Professional Development events and flagship Annual Conference, including creation of high-quality assets, collateral, and delegate communications.
  • Publications:
     Drive promotion and engagement for SMA's respected research journal (JSAMS), its companion platform JSAMS Plus. Oversee the development and product of SMA's quarterly 
    Sport Health
     magazine.
  • Content & Collateral:
     Produce a wide range of marketing materials (prospectuses, brochures, videos, proposals, signage) that align with brand and organisational priorities.
  • Website:
     Manage content, updates, and reporting for SMA's website to ensure accuracy, relevance, and member engagement.

About you

We're looking for someone who is both strategic and practical - comfortable developing marketing plans while rolling up their sleeves to deliver. You will bring:

  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organisational abilities.
  • Experience delivering campaigns across digital, social, and email platforms.
  • A collaborative and creative mindset, with a keen eye for design and messaging.
  • Confidence working across multiple projects, audiences, and deadlines.
  • Leadership experience and the ability to support and guide team members.
  • Previous experience working in the not-for-profit sector, in particular membership associations, would be looked on favourably.
