Primary objective

To provide high quality clinical services, under the guidance and supervision of specialist staff, through the relevant

Department to Alice Springs Hospital, Alice Springs and Barkly region/fringe areas of Western Australia and South Australia.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide high quality day to day care for inpatient and outpatient clinical services in the department.

2. Supervise the day-to-day activities of interns and residents and ensure the overall quality of clinical care and the medical

record. Participate in operating theatre lists. Opportunities will be provided to perform surgeries under supervision.

3. Participate in the on-call roster as required to ensure the proper functioning of the hospital.

4. Initiate and partake in quality management, peer review and ongoing personal medical education programs.

5. Participate in teaching for junior staff and education programs for medical students.

6. Undertake research as appropriate.

7. Participate in other duties as delegated by the Head of Department or Executive Director of Medical Services.

8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

  1. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Eligible for general medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia

  1. A minimum of 2 years relevant postgraduate experience.

  2. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work

environment, as a team member.

4. Ability to work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team and an interest in and a commitment to improving

Indigenous health.

5. Demonstrated commitment to high quality patient care.

6. Able to directly manage and supervise junior staff.
