What you'll be doing

As a Senior Mental Health Clinician, you will play a key leadership role within the Safeguards Team—PCYMHS' dedicated, mobile crisis response service for children and adolescents (0–17 years). Using your advanced clinical expertise, you will deliver timely, evidence-based, trauma-informed assessment and intervention to support young people in mental distress and help stabilise crises in the community.

  • Provide comprehensive mental health assessments, brief interventions and care coordination for consumers in crisis
  • Build collaborative, culturally sensitive relationships with children, young people, families and carers
  • Navigate and link consumers to appropriate supports including GPs, CAMHS and community agencies
  • Deliver psychoeducation, consultation and clinical supervision to students and junior staff
  • Maintain high-quality clinical documentation and participate in quality improvement, research and service development.
  • Supported by additional Ministry of Health training opportunities including family systems, single session therapy, and ASD.
  • Supervision is offered both in a team and individual format by experienced Child and Adolescent mental health professionals.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Psychology OR Social Work OR Counselling OR Occupational Therapy OR Nursing.

  • CNC1 requires a minimum of 5 years full time post registration experience with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in Mental Health or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the LHD.

  • Clinical Psychologist requires a Masters degree or higher in Clinical Psychology.
  • Counsellor must be a graduate of the Djirrawang Aboriginal Mental Health Traineeship program with the associated tertiary qualification and mental health experience.
  • Registration:Current full Registration with AHPRA in respective discipline or Eligibility to be a member of AASW for Social Workers. Clinical Psychologist must hold AHPRA registration and endorsement in Clinical Psychology.

Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications (bachelor's degree or higher) and professional discipline registration/membership. Social Workers must meet eligibility for membership with AASW. Occupational Therapist must have general registration with APHRA. Senior Psychologists General APHRA registration and must be eligible for grading as a Senior with no less than 12 months at 9 years of service or thereafter. Clinical Psychologists must have a postgraduate Masters or higher in Clinical Psychology and AHPRA endorsement in the area of clinical psychology. Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 Registered Nurse 1 with APHRA, must have at least 5 years' full time equivalent post registration experience and an approved post graduate qualifications in mental health, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the LHD. Counsellor – must be a graduate of the Djirrawang Aboriginal Mental Health Traineeship program with the associated tertiary qualification and mental health experience.
  • Extensive post graduate clinical experience providing evidence-based assessment and treatment for children and/or adolescents and their families/carers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with families, other relevant agencies and community services and to provide effective collaborative intervention for consumers
  • Ability to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature. Including ability to resolve conflict and de-escalate levels of distress
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and independently to accomplish service goals and improved consumer care and outcomes. Including highly developed written and verbal communication skills and competence in the use of information technology systems
  • Extensive contemporary experience and knowledge of mental health care practice, as well as demonstrated understanding of the principles of trauma informed care and its application when working with children/adolescents and families/carers.
  • Current Driver's Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel
