Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Jade Legal and HR Pty Ltd Full time $180,000 - $250,000 per year

Why Jade Legal & HR Pty Ltd?

We are a boutique law firm, primarily specialising in employment law nationally.

Our mission is to provide speedy, practical, high quality advice to small-medium sized businesses, with a true CX focus and relationship-driven approach. We provide advice and solutions on the full ambit of employment law matters, including contracts, industrial instrument interpretation, management of injured workers, dispute resolution, investigation and litigation. We also provide services to employees where no conflict arises.

We are a modern law firm challenging the status quo. We like to think we have taken all the good things about traditional big law and in-house work, and chucked out the rest.

We care about delivering high quality work for our clients. However, we don't believe that requires presence in an office. We allow all our employees to work remotely, and fully flexibly around their life needs. Need to pick up the kids at 3pm and want to log in later? Fine. Want to work remotely from the Northern Territory? Go for it. We offer trust and flexibility, in return for you providing great quality service to our clients.

The things we do care about:

  1. Delivering an amazing service to our clients - we are the lawyers they want to work with. This means the ability to understand our clients' businesses, identify the problem and come up with quality and commercial solutions.
  2. Leaving the ego at the door. Our clients are all amazing humans. They've started businesses and taken on risk to create something new. They don't need to be spoken down to, and we won't stand for it. If you're amazing at what you do but also down-to-earth, you'll love the culture here.
  3. Each other. We care about our people. So, equally, we want people to care. Care for themselves, care for each other, care for our clients. We start with trust and openness and flexibility and are incredibly team-focused.
  4. Innovation and being bold. Got an idea? Let's try it. Is there a better way? Let's hear it. The whole point is to be different.
  5. Integrity and doing the right thing, even when it's hard and even when no-one is watching. Our purpose is to be better. If we lose our values, we lose our difference and we lose the point.

What we can offer you:

  • We can offer flexibility and are open to this position being part-time, casual or even a contractor role (daily or hourly rates).
  • A small and growing business, with the ability to make an impact and grow with us.
  • We can offer guidance and mentorship. Our Director is a senior top-tier trained lawyer who has a lot to offer in terms of mentorship in regards to both business development and technical expertise.
  • A collaborative and supportive working environment.
  • Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience.
  • Merit-based career progression.

Hopefully by now, you're thinking, 'where have you been all my life?'

So, let's go to our ideal person.

We are looking for a senior employment lawyer who is comfortable to run matters end to end. Ideally, you are at a Senior Associate level or higher, or may be the Principal of your own law firm and looking for additional work.

We are looking for a senior role to manage the firm and take on matters, covering our Director's leave.

We expect this role can be performed within 2-3 days per week if needed.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Quality experience and skills in the provision of strategic commercial legal and advisory services. We want someone with great technical expertise and training. Ideally, you will have training from a big firm and some in-house experience with a focus on employment law.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • The experience required to independently produce premium quality work and an unrestricted practising certificate.
  • The ability and desire to work collaboratively and autonomously.
  • Ideas and clients to grow the business.
  • A solution motivated mindset.
  • The drive to innovate and create, and a thirst for continuous learning.
  • The ability to think strategically as well as 'roll up your sleeves'.
  • Established client and industry connections and business development skills.
  • The desire to be part of a business that values client service and integrity.
  • Leadership experience to mentor future hires.

You may also:

  • have clients you would like to continue to service but you don't want to start your own practice;
  • be tired of the traditional law firm model, or traditionally found your 'home' in-house;
  • be looking for a flexible role which is focused on output rather than presenteeism;
  • looking for overflow casual or contractor work; and
  • be wanting to get in early at a small but growing organisation to build a lasting career. We see these initial hires as integral to our success, and all going well, part of our future succession plan.

If you're looking for a legal role with a distinct difference, we'd love to meet you in person or online from wherever you are based. Please apply or email

Applications from candidates of all backgrounds, ages, life experiences and abilities are welcome.

Please indicate in your application whether you are looking for part-time, full-time or casual or contract work.

We will not consider or accept applications from any recruitment agencies at this stage.

We will be considering applications as they are submitted, so please do not delay your application.
