The Opportunity
Our Western Port Manufacturing facility is looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Engineering and Capital Projects team based in Hastings for a 2 year fixed term role. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products Portfolio, we have four major manufacturing sites at Western Port which operate 24 x 7 and deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to export and domestic customers.
In this role you will be responsible for delivering capital projects ensuring that critical plant infrastructure and manufacturing units maintain maximum uptime capability and efficiency. Project Engineers at Western Port work across all phases of the capital project lifecycle from concept and pre-feasibility studies through to project execution and commissioning. Projects are wide and varied working on all aspects of critical infrastructure and manufacturing process lines.
This role will involve project management and planning, engineering design and development, specification and procurement of equipment, documentation and reporting, budget setting and management, contractor management and supervision and ensuring that our workplace adheres to our strict safety and compliance requirements.
As a Mechanical Project Engineer you will support our manufacturing business at the production equipment level, ensuring capital projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to quality standards. This role seeks and develops opportunities in production systems and processes and identifies new technologies that lead to reduced costs, increased capacity and/or improved product quality.
What you will do:
- safely deliver capital projects within budget and schedule constraints to support the Western Port plant
- liaise with project stakeholders to develop project strategies and solutions to deliver business benefits
- lead and/or assist in the design of equipment and engineering solutions
- manage project execution as per planned budget, scope and schedule and ensure safety standards are always met
More About You
We require a qualified engineer with a degree in either Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering. You will have background and experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
In addition to having knowledge and experience with project engineering and equipment design and maintenance you will also have:
- a strong safety focus
- demonstrated ability to work individually as well as within a team
- a deep understanding of manufacturing processes & the ability to analyse & identify opportunities for improvement
- success in the implementation of engineering projects in an industrial brownfield environment;
- knowledge of mechanical systems
- a portfolio of engineered equipment designs implemented where operational requirements have been met or exceeded
- demonstrated ability to develop detailed and accurate equipment specifications and proven project management skills
- strong relationship management skills with project team members, equipment suppliers installation contractors and other stakeholders
