Primary objective
To ensure that the Makarraṯa Programs are aligned to the aspirations of the Homelands Communities and provide students
with access to educational opportunities that will support them to complete their schooling in a Homelands context. To
provide culturally responsive 'away from home' support for students in the Makarrata Senior Years Program.
Context statement
The Laynhapuy Homelands School (LHS) is a cluster of 9 Homeland Learning Centres (HLCs) spread throughout Northeast Arnhem
land. Senior years students enrolled at LHS receive their education through the Makarraṯa Senior Years program. Predominantly,
the Makarraṯa program operates at Garrthalala, a homeland within the footprint of LHS. Makarraṯa students travel via plane and
stay at the Makarraṯa Boarding Facility at Garrthalala. The Makarraṯa Raypirri Rom Team at Garrthalala provide cultural advice,
leadership, and support to the Makarraṯa Programs in collaboration with this position.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and support for the Makarraṯa Senior Years program including: management of away from home care
programs; staff management and development; logistical operations for Makarraṯa Programs.
2. Provide leadership and support for the development, implementation and review of school policies, procedures and strategic
planning through collaboration with all stakeholders to achieve optimum educational outcomes.
3. Establish and maintain professional networks to ensure Makarraṯa Programs meet relevant standards and are sustainable.
4. Lead engagement with key Homeland community stakeholders to ensure the Makarraṯa Programs are culturally responsive.
5. Provide high level advice, reports and briefings to the Principal, School Council and other governing bodies.
6. Support the Principal in the provision of human, financial and physical resources in accordance with departmental policy, to
meet the identified needs of the school community.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to utilise strong interpersonal skills to develop productive partnerships both within the school and wider
community.
2. Demonstrated experience in managing complex situations and logistics with demonstrated high level administrative and record
keeping skills.
3. Demonstrated ability to work and positively interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
4. Demonstrated experience in curriculum leadership [specifically senior years curriculum and pathways].
- Demonstrated understanding of boarding operations and standards.
- Proven high-level managerial skills including the management of infrastructure, finances, staff, operations, and communication.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage innovation and change.
Further information
Applicants must have registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory, a current Working with Children
Clearance Notice (Ochre Card) and driver's licence (or ability to obtain). This position will require travel, mainly on unsealed roads
in 4WD vehicles and light aircraft, including overnight stays in remote communities.
- The preferred start date for the role is 6th October 2025 to facilitate handover during Term 4, however this can be negotiated
directly with the Principal, Ms Abigail White.
