Are you an experienced governance professional ready to step into a leadership role at one of Sydney's largest councils? We're looking for a Senior Governance Officer to join on an initial 3-month contract (with potential to extend), leading a team and driving key governance initiatives that ensure compliance, transparency, and efficiency across council operations.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and manage a team of Governance Officers, providing expert advice across compliance, delegations, and governance frameworks.
  • Oversee key governance processes including Code of Conduct obligations, GIPA and PIPP Act compliance, and major governance projects.
  • Drive policy reviews, implement improvements, and deliver governance training across the organisation.
  • Liaise with stakeholders including the Office of Local Government and the NSW Ombudsman, managing investigations, reviews, and compliance requirements.
  • Champion continuous improvement, strong governance practices, and risk management across Council.

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years' governance management experience within local government (or equivalent complex environment).
  • Strong knowledge of governance frameworks, compliance, and legislation including GIPA and PIPP Act.
  • Ability to provide clear, confident advice at all levels in a politically sensitive environment.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement and policy review skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications in business, policy, or local government highly regarded.
