Position Description – Graduate Business Intelligence Analyst

September 2025

Purpose

The Graduate Business Intelligence Analyst supports the City of Marion's vision to become a

data-led organisation by assisting in the development of reporting solutions and gaining

hands-on experience with data tools and techniques. This role is designed to build capability

and provide structured learning opportunities, enabling the graduate to grow into a

professional Business Intelligence Analyst.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and maintenance of dashboards using Power BI and other tools.

  • Support data validation, profiling, and quality improvement activities.

  • Help gather business requirements and contribute to stakeholder workshops.

  • Learn and apply SQL and BI concepts under guidance.

  • Contribute to documentation, process improvement, and team collaboration.

Person Specification

Essential criteria

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate (or final-year student) in Information Technology, Data Science,

Statistics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Foundational knowledge of data analysis and reporting concepts, gained through

study or projects.

  • Familiarity with at least one data visualisation or reporting tool (e.g. Power BI,

Tableau, or Excel).

  • Awareness of data management principles such as accuracy, quality, and integrity.

  • Ability to interpret information and identify patterns or trends.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to support stakeholder engagement under supervision.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain information

clearly.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing

priorities.

  • Commitment to learning new tools, techniques, and ways of working.

Desirable criteria

  • Exposure to SQL, Python, or other data-related tools through coursework,

internships, or projects.

  • Experience from work placements, internships, or project-based learning in data,

reporting, or analytics.

Standard conditions

  • Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance (will be arranged by the City of

Marion)

  • Satisfactory completion of applicable Medical Assessment (will be arranged by the

City of Marion)

  • Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,

with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa.

  • Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations and

apply "Think Safe Live Well" philosophy.

  • Embrace ethical and moral behaviour and report any suspected instances of fraud

and/or corruption in accordance with Fraud and Corruption Management and the

Code of Conduct.
