Mechanical Engineering Technician

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic machinery, ensuring all equipment operates at peak efficiency. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems

• Conduct installation, maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Remove, inspect, and replace hydraulic pumps, motors, actuators, control valves, and pressure regulators.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic cylinders and pneumatic components to ensure optimal functionality.
• Fabricate and install hydraulic piping, fittings, and couplings.
• Ensure hydraulic and pneumatic systems operate within specified pressure and flow parameters.

2. Mechanical Fitting & Maintenance

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery.
• Diagnose and repair gearboxes, pumps, valves, motors, mechanical grabs, and cylinders.
• Conduct major and minor maintenance on boilers, ash conveyors, and material-handling systems.
• Perform precision alignment of rotating machinery using laser alignment tools.
• Remove, install, and overhaul power transmission components, including bearings, shafts, and couplings.
• Conduct site shut maintenance and turnaround operations.

3. Electrical & Instrumentation Support

• Perform basic electrical fault finding and minor repairs on industrial equipment.
• Assist with instrumentation maintenance, including sensor calibration and control system checks.
• Inspect, test, and troubleshoot electrical panels, relays, starters, alternators, and batteries.
• Support rewiring of machinery and maintenance of electrical panels.
• Assist in diagnosing and repairing electronic control units and automation systems.

4. Welding, Fabrication & Machining

• Perform MIG, TIG, and arc welding for repairs and modifications.
• Use plasma cutting, turning, and milling machines for precision manufacturing.
• Conduct boilermaking tasks, including metal fabrication and assembly.

5. Machinery Operation & Safety Compliance

• Operate and maintain overhead cranes, forklifts, cherry pickers, and scissor lifts.
• Conduct risk assessments and complete job cards for all maintenance tasks.
• Adhere to strict health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
• Provide daily reports and continuous improvement proposals to supervisors.

Skills & Competencies:

Expertise in Hydraulics & Pneumatics – Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation.

Mechanical Fitting & Maintenance – Proven experience in gearbox, pump, motor, and valve maintenance.

Electrical & Instrumentation Knowledge – Ability to assist with basic electrical and instrumentation fault finding.

Fabrication & Welding – Skilled in MIG, TIG, and arc welding, as well as metal cutting and shaping.

Precision & Problem-Solving – Ability to conduct fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.

Safety & Compliance Awareness – Strong understanding of risk assessments and workplace safety protocols.

Technical Reporting – Capable of documenting repairs, completing job cards, and working within SAP maintenance systems.

Flexibility & Commitment – Willing to work overtime, standby shifts, and respond to emergency breakdowns.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Trade Certificate: Qualified Mechanical Fitter or Millwright qualifications
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical fitting, hydraulics, pneumatics, and instrumentation.
• Experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, or power plant operations.
• Valid Driver's License required – no restrictions.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $76,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
