Project Manager Financial Systems Transition
1 day ago
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager Financial Systems Transition to play a pivotal role in the transformation of financial management systems within a leading educational institution. This position offers you the chance to be at the forefront of a major government reform initiative, ensuring a seamless transition to a new Oracle financial management system.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, ICT, and external government stakeholders, to deliver impactful change that supports organisational growth and efficiency. The role is ideal for someone who thrives in collaborative environments, values clear communication, and is passionate about driving process improvements. Flexible working opportunities and a supportive team culture make this an outstanding career move for those seeking both professional challenge and personal development.
What You'll Do
As Project Manager Financial Systems Transition, you will be responsible for orchestrating one of the most significant technology upgrades within the organisation's finance function. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with finance professionals, ICT experts, business users, and government representatives to ensure every aspect of the transition is meticulously planned and executed. You will facilitate workshops to capture business requirements, oversee rigorous testing phases to guarantee system integrity, and design tailored training sessions that empower users. By maintaining open channels of communication between all parties - including acting as administrative officer for steering committees—you will ensure alignment on objectives while proactively addressing challenges. Your ability to develop detailed project documentation and manage resource allocation will be crucial in keeping the project on track. Ultimately, your efforts will help create a more efficient financial environment that supports both operational excellence and strategic growth.
- Oversee the end-to-end transition to a new Oracle financial management system, ensuring all requirements of the Financial Reform Program are met within agreed timeframes.
- Identify, document, and manage key process changes while developing comprehensive change management plans and supporting their successful implementation across the organisation.
- Coordinate delivery schedules for systems development and deployment so they align with finance business requirements and other key activities, managing any impacts from non-finance system changes appropriately.
- Collaborate extensively with stakeholders to gather business requirements, conduct thorough system testing, and provide user training and ongoing support as needed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Translate business goals into technical system requirements by facilitating clear communication between internal teams and external partners involved in the Financial Reform Program.
- Champion organisational needs by acting as the primary communication channel between internal teams and the Financial Reform Program Team within the Department of Treasury and Finance.
- Provide effective project leadership by fostering information sharing, aligning stakeholder objectives, and guiding the Financial Systems Transition Project Team towards shared success.
- Develop, refine, and regularly update detailed project plans and timetables to ensure all key stages are identified, managed, and delivered on schedule.
- Identify required project resources, negotiate their allocation, and prepare robust business cases for additional funding when necessary to support project objectives.
- Monitor programme execution by managing deliverables, budgets, timelines, risks, resources, tasks, reporting mechanisms, and communications to ensure smooth progress.
What You Bring
To excel as Project Manager Financial Systems Transition you will bring substantial experience managing complex projects - ideally those involving financial systems upgrades or transitions - in large organisations. Your background should include hands-on involvement in process mapping initiatives where you have worked collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to identify pain points and implement sustainable solutions. You possess strong interpersonal skills that allow you to build trust quickly among colleagues from varied backgrounds while maintaining sensitivity towards cultural differences. Your approach is grounded in empathy; you listen actively before proposing thoughtful recommendations that reflect both technical feasibility and user needs. In addition to your technical acumen around accounting processes or IT systems integration (particularly Oracle), you demonstrate resilience under pressure - adapting plans responsively when circumstances shift unexpectedly. Your written reports are clear yet comprehensive; your presentations engage audiences whether they are senior executives or frontline staff members. Above all else: your dependability ensures stakeholders feel supported throughout every stage of this transformative journey.
- Degree qualification in accounting, economics, information technology, project management, business or related field - or equivalent experience - demonstrating your academic foundation for this complex role.
- Advanced relationship management skills complemented by excellent written and verbal communication abilities that enable you to connect effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven expertise in project management methodologies with demonstrated success in leading large-scale projects involving multiple teams across different functions.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial transaction processes that allows you to bridge gaps between technical solutions and business needs.
- Demonstrated experience identifying opportunities for improvement within financial systems—and successfully implementing those changes in complex environments.
