About The Role

The primary purpose of this role is to provide a timely and accurate analytical service to ensure ongoing quality and reliability of plant operations. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, covering diverse areas of work including spectrographic, raw materials and environment.

This is primarily a daywork role but shift work will be required at times to meet business needs.

This is a part time 3 days per week for a period of 12 months.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Sample collection from onsite and offsite (Kooragang Bulk Facilities)
  • Registration of samples.
  • Preparation of samples using various sub-sampling and crushing equipment.
  • Perform a variety of physical and chemical tests on the raw materials used in the aluminium making process.
  • Operating x-ray fluorescence, x-ray diffraction and density instruments.
  • Test, maintain and calibrate equipment

Selection Criteria:

  • Current drivers' licence
  • Diploma or degree in chemistry or equivalent
  • Demonstrated report writing skills
  • An understanding of working in a NATA accredited laboratory
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills (including Excel)
  • Demonstrated experience to report and present information
  • Ability to work shift work when required.
