The opportunity

Reporting to the Head, Journals Editorial & Research Integrity, the Research Integrity Specialist will work proactively to manage publication ethics cases (pre- and post-publication), implement best-practice guidelines, and educate internal and external stakeholders on matters of publication ethics. You will play a key role in safeguarding the integrity and reputation of CSIRO Publishing journals.

Your high-level duties will include:
  • Assessing integrity alerts and investigating potential issues in line with Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance and other relevant guidelines.
  • Liaising with authors, editors, and external stakeholders regarding publication and peer review misconduct.
  • Reviewing cases of possible plagiarism or self-plagiarism and progressing to resolution.
  • Reporting on research integrity cases and emerging trends.
  • Supporting policy, process, and tool development to strengthen research integrity practices.
  • Providing guidance, training, and resources to internal publishing teams and external contributors.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of evolving challenges in publication ethics and advising on solutions.

Location: Clayton, VIC (preferred); Other Australian CSIRO sites and remote working arrangements may be considered.

Salary: AU$96k - AU$109k (pro-rata for part-time) +15.4% superannuation

Tenure & work schedule: 2-year Specified Term, Part-time (0.8 FTE / 58 hrs per fortnight)

To be considered you will need:

Essential criteria

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant STEM field.
  • Awareness of research integrity challenges, trends, and best practices in STEM
  • Experience building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly developed communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills across multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to be results-oriented and performance-driven.
  • Flexibility to travel nationally and internationally as required.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience as a STEM author in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience collaborating with Editorial Boards.
  • Experience working across geographies and cultures.
  • Experience delivering presentations and training.
