Prevent. Assist. Respond. Training. (PART) Community Educator
Level: 5.1
Salary: $99,741 per annum/pro rata
Status: Permanent Full Time
The 'Prevent. Assist. Respond. Training – do your part' (PART) project is specialist ongoing domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) training for police and healthcare workers in the Northern Territory.
The PART project was developed by a consortium led by Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation, with its partners Women's Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA), the Domestic Violence Legal Service (DVLS) and the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission. Northern Territory Police, Northern Territory De-partment of Health, Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory, and Territory Families sit on the PART Steering Committee and provide oversight and guidance on the project.
The PART project has four central aims:
- To ensure the voices of victim-survivors, particularly Aboriginal women, inform the training materials and package for police and healthcare workers
- To increase collaboration and strengthen relationships between the DFSV sector, health and police
- To increase knowledge and understanding of domestic, family, and sexual violence, including emerging forms and key challenges, as well as trauma-informed culturally safe and non-collusive practice, among stakeholders and community members
- To support healthcare workers and police through the development and delivery of targeted ongoing specialist training materials and packages.
While initially focused on police and health sectors, PART is now expanding into a broader community edu-cation context. The PART Community Educator will play a key role in delivering foundational DFSV training across a range of organisations, including Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), spe-cialist DFSV services, legal services, safe houses, and other community contexts throughout the Northern Territory. The successful candidate will be a highly organised and motivated individual with excellent com-munication skills, who is committed to reducing violence against women and children across the NT. The position will involve adapting content and developing resources, delivering in-person training, significant travel, stakeholder engagement, and administrative tasks associated with implementing the PART program in community and frontline service contexts. This role reports to the PART Coordinator and works closely with the PART project team to ensure the training is effectively delivered beyond the police and healthcare sectors.
To successfully fill this role, the PART Community Educator will have completed tertiary studies in Communi-ty Development, Social Work, Gender Studies, Sociology, Psychology, or a related discipline, and have sig-nificant experience in DFSV work as well as in training and education. Experience in, and an understanding of, the Northern Territory context—along with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities—will be highly advantageous.
