Primary objective
Provide leadership to Central and Barkly Department of Education and Training Skills Centres ensuring Territory students have
access to high quality, flexible Vocational Education and Training (VET) opportunities. This role works collaboratively with industry,
schools, and community to facilitate meaningful pathways ensuring national standards are maintained and future workforce needs
are prioritised.
Context statement
Skills NT's role is to build a skilled and capable workforce through VET that meets the needs of Territorians, industry and
community. This role works collaboratively with, Industry, community, schools, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and other
government departments to support schools and regions to deliver VET programs that contribute to suitable post-school
destination pathways.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage and coordinate staff, including regionally based staff to ensure a high quality and equitable service is provided to
schools and other relevant stakeholders.
2. Broker and maintain collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances with industry, training providers, school principals and
other relevant stakeholders, and promote employment pathways, career options for students and facilitate the introduction of
new initiatives in relation to vocational education.
- Apply contemporary leadership and management skills including business planning, projects, human resources, finance, contract
management and budgeting.
- Present data and information that can be used to inform business policy responses and strategies.
- In line with the DET Strategic Plan, develop and implement policy, system wide professional support and advice relevant to the
delivery of vocational pathways and supporting programs to meet student and school needs.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed understanding and knowledge of local industry, key players and current issues driving skills and workforce.
2. Proven capability and experience in strategic planning, program and project management and delivery, including budget and
financial planning.
3. Demonstrated proactive leadership of a busy team including relationship management and stakeholder engagement across
diverse groups.
4. High-level current knowledge of VET, apprenticeships and traineeships, relevant legislative provisions and the issues impacting
the sector.
5. Solutions-focused, including ability to define and achieve individual and team goals within specified timeframes, manage
competing priorities, deliver agreed outcomes, and maintain a high level of professionalism, personal drive and resilience.
6. Excellent written communication, including preparing clear and concise reports, high level correspondence, Ministerial and
Legislative Assembly briefs and recommendations.

This position requires a current Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance.
The role will involve regular travel. Visits to remote schools may necessitate travel by 4WD vehicle or in light aircraft and include
overnight stays in remote communities.
