The Mornington Shire Council is a Local Government Authority providing range of services to the twenty-three islands of the Wellesley Group located 125kms north-west of Burketown, 200kms west of Karumba and 444kms from Mount Isa, in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria, residing within the State of Queensland. The island is 2.5 hours flight from Cairns.

What We A re Looking for:
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced leader in the housing and facilities sector.
It is expected that the Director will oversee the performance of the Facilities and Housing Manager's to ensure the synchronization of these functions, drive process improvement and identify opportunities for cost savings in order to maximise Council's financial position.
As a member of the Council's executive the role Director exists to assist the CEO with a broad range of local government housing and facilities activities including forward planning of works, liaison with external authorities in relation to future works projects, consolidation of various projects and programs, development of within the Shire and ensuring that the various operations of Council are contained within budgetary constraints and time schedules.
Role & Responsibilities
- Ensuring, commitment to excellence in the strategic leadership of the Division's management and operational teams and:
- Ensuring optimum capability, accountability, transparency, and probity of each Section.
- Providing quality professional advice to Council in policy and decision making, resulting in a strong and trusting relationship within the Division and between other Divisions and the Council.
- the achievement of efficient, effective and quality outcomes for the Division and professional service to the Council's customers and the community
- be responsive to change, develop and achieve solutions through innovative approaches.
- Establish a positive workplace culture that encourages and rewards excellence and supports continuous improvement.
- Leading the implementation of the Division's operational plan, budgets, policies, and programs that fall within its responsibilities to achieve high levels of performance against expected outcomes. 
- Working collaboratively with the CEO and other members of the Executive Leadership Team to ensure the successful integration of strategic planning across the Division and to engender a spirit of cooperation and mutual support between operational areas in the pursuit of service excellence. 
- Manage Council's contract with the Department of Housing and Public Works to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of housing construction repairs and maintenance.
- Plan, coordinate and manage repairs and maintenance for council administration buildings, staff and community housing and facilities.
- Plan, coordinate and manage repairs and maintenance for all council owned commercially leased premises.
- Ensure appropriate job scheduling, costing & reporting processes are in place to ensure planning and delivery of services in a timely and cost-effective manner, including complying with Council's contractual obligations under the Indigenous Employment Program.
- Management of Council carpenters, plumbers, painters and electrician to ensure appropriate allocation of staff to programmed tasks.
What You Require
- Relevant Degree in or equivalent with at least 3 years practical experience as Building Construction manager.
- Local Government experience
- Experience in project management and work scheduling.
- Strong team leadership and the ability to influence and manage change.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to provide quality results within timeframes.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Current unrestricted "C" Class manual drivers' licence.
