Energy Project Director
Airport Development Group (ADG) is seeking a strategic and commercially minded Energy Project Director to lead the performance and growth of our embedded energy networks across Darwin, Alice Springs, and Tennant Creek Airports. In this role, you'll drive the optimisation of energy infrastructure, with a clear focus on enhancing capital value and increasing net income. You will also play a pivotal role in supporting ADG's ambition to achieve net zero airport operations by 2030—a goal that aligns with our broader commitment to sustainable infrastructure and innovation in the Northern Territory.
About the Position
As the Energy Project Director, you will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive five-year business unit strategy for ADG's energy assets. This strategy will focus on both immediate operational goals and long-term commercial performance, including the preparation and oversight of annual budgets, revenue forecasting, cost control, and benchmarking asset performance against comparable industry standards. You will be responsible for identifying and prioritising capital upgrades, managing lifecycle capital expenditure forecasting, and ensuring compliance with all relevant licenses and regulatory requirements.
The role involves overseeing feasibility studies for new and upgraded energy infrastructure, including solar and battery solutions, in partnership with internal teams and external consultants. You'll actively procure and manage wholesale energy supply contracts, negotiate energy retail agreements with ADG's customers, and monitor pricing across the portfolio to ensure compliance and profitability. A critical part of your remit will be leading the implementation of data analysis platforms for real-time performance monitoring, while also contributing to broader ESG initiatives, such as improving NABERS ratings across the property portfolio.
You will work closely with teams across Facilities, Electrical, Environmental, Finance, Legal, and Project Management to ensure operational alignment, strategic execution, and continued delivery of safe, efficient, and environmentally conscious energy services. Acting as project sponsor on new and upgraded energy assets, your leadership will directly influence ADG's long-term sustainability and commercial outcomes.
Selection Criteria
You bring proven experience in developing and implementing business strategies for energy assets, with demonstrated success managing embedded networks across multiple locations. You have a strong background in feasibility assessments, renewable energy solutions, and contract negotiation within the energy sector. Your ability to navigate market complexity, coupled with sound financial analysis and reporting capabilities, enables you to lead high-impact projects from concept to completion.
Experience delivering on ESG initiatives, particularly through NABERS enhancement strategies, will be highly regarded, as will your knowledge of best-in-class energy data collection and monitoring systems. You're a confident communicator with excellent written skills, able to influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Relationships or insights into the Northern Territory energy market are a distinct advantage, and you hold relevant tertiary qualifications—ideally a degree or master's in business, engineering, energy management, or a related field.
You thrive in dynamic environments and are comfortable managing ambiguity while driving results. Most importantly, you bring a passion for energy innovation and a collaborative approach to achieving ADG's vision of becoming a leading energy provider in the region.
Why ADG?
Airport Development Group owns and operates key infrastructure across the Northern Territory, including airports, commercial buildings, and hospitality assets. With a strong investment pipeline and a commitment to shaping a more sustainable and connected Northern Australia, we are entering a period of exciting growth and transformation. This is your chance to be part of something meaningful driving energy strategy at the heart of an organisation that's making a real difference in the Territory.
At ADG, we offer a supportive, inclusive, and energetic workplace, with a strong focus on professional development. You'll benefit from ongoing learning opportunities, mentoring, and career growth pathways tailored to your ambitions. Our health and wellbeing program, yearly lifestyle allowance, and salary sacrificing options (including novated leasing and super contributions) are designed to support your overall wellbeing. We also offer additional leave entitlements for eligible employees and a workplace culture that values diversity, innovation, and impact.
