The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (the Reef Authority) is a Commonwealth non-corporate entity, and a statutory agency established by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 (Marine Park Act), reporting to the Minister for the Environment and Water. Our objective is the long-term protection, ecologically sustainable use, understanding and enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef for all Australians and the international community through the care and development of the Marine Park.

Managing a reef roughly the size of Italy demands many skills and talents, so you don't have to be a marine biologist to contribute to our mission. From finance to marketing roles, we have a team almost as diverse as the ecosystem we protect. Our commitment and dedication to the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian public have a long-lasting impact, and we are looking for individuals who can bring their unique skills, experience, and knowledge to our high-performing and inclusive organisation.

The Position

We are seeking an experienced Support Officer to join the Property and Security team located at the Reef Authority's main office in Townsville. In this role, you'll support the Business Operations team in all aspects of sustainable property management, protective security, and business continuity - delivering a corporate service to the whole-of-agency.

As part of a frontline team, you'll respond to internal and external stakeholder requests, supporting day-to-day operations such as administration of the corporate vehicle fleet, assisting with asset and facilities management, and overall services to Reef Authority staff to enable their day-to-day work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Property Services' requests and queries across a range of interfaces including shared mailboxes, workflow software, Property Services Provider work order platforms, phone, and in-person requests.
  • Review and assist with requests, or escalate as required, such as directing customers to appropriate sections, relocation of small office furniture (e.g. office chairs) or other workstation equipment, directing deliveries, placing requests for maintenance, and escorting contractors and visitors to work areas.
  • Perform administrative and functional tasks in relation to the Reef Authority's fleet vehicles and inventory, including delivering vehicles for detailing, fuelling, charging and maintenance.
  • Direct staff to appropriate Property Services' facilities and training, assist with training packages, and deliver in-person training to staff (such as vehicle and equipment inductions).
  • Assist with maintaining security administration documents and day-to-day administrative processes including assistance in the preparation of procurement and finance requests and completing forms and documentation.
  • Provide team member support for sustainability initiatives, assist with sizing and issuing corporate uniforms, ordering stationery, and organising postage.
  • Demonstrate personal initiative and problem-solving skills in a team environment, a commitment to teamwork, and flexibility in supporting others to within the organisation.
  • At times you may be required to undertake hazardous manual tasks including lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling or carrying loads of varying sizes and weights.
