The role:

We are seeking a part-time 2026 replacement Student Counsellor working with our Junior School. As a dedicated member of the Wellbeing team. You will be passionate about nurturing the hearts and minds of young children as you support the emotional wellbeing of our students, guiding them with compassion, wisdom, and purpose.

Commencing in January 2026, this role works two days per week during term time plus the weeks prior to, and at the conclusion of the school year. While there is flexibility of which days you work, one of these will need to be either a Monday or Friday.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Wellbeing and the counselling team in the development, implementation and evaluation of College Wellbeing programs, goals and outcomes.
  • Provide counselling and implementation of programs for individuals and groups.
  • Assist parents and staff in planning and supporting wellbeing interventions.
  • Provide professional learning and information to build capacity of staff and families to improve student wellbeing communication and administration.
  • Attend regular meetings with the relevant staff over student wellbeing concerns modifying and co-ordinating the levels of support required.
  • Act as a consultant to the College leadership in relevant school matters.
  • Make appropriate ongoing referrals to agencies to provide professional support and liaise with other clinicians and families.
  • Provide crisis management services including critical incident planning, communication, reporting, debriefing and reviewing to improve responses.
  • Inform, and liaise with relevant staff, agencies, and parents/guardians about areas of concern as necessary.
  • Provide referral information for psycho-educational and clinical assessments and follow up.
  • Comply with the Professional guidelines in the APS or PACFA Code of Ethics General.
  • Maintain case records accurately and in a timely manner.

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess an appropriate academic qualification relevant to the role eg;
  • Registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or
  • Qualified social Worker eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers or
  • Counsellor with postgraduate qualification eligible for membership of Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia
  • Support and nurture the College's Catholic ethos and Ignatian charism
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of wellbeing interventions and evidence-based prevention programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in assessment and intervention
  • Specialised understanding of the policies and procedures that guide the effective management of critical incidents in school communities.
  • Experience working in clinical or educational counselling settings.
  • Familiarity with the APS or PACFA Code of Ethics, including the practice guidelines and framework in the APS Ethical guidelines for working with young people, such as the APS framework for Effective Delivery of School Psychology Services: A practice guide for Psychologists and School Leaders.
  • Possess, or be willing to obtain, a Working with Child Check (WWCC) and First Aid Certificate (HLTAID012), and complete Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care training.
