The Division of Academic and Student Engagement (DASE) partners with students, staff and the broader community to deliver an outstanding student experience. At the heart of the student experience are transformational opportunities in learning and teaching.

The Student Experience branch is responsible for providing services that deliver an excellent student experience. This includes administrative and support services to students as well as service to, and partnership with, academic staff in the development of a high-quality, engaging and relevant learning environment.

Working under broad direction, the Student Counsellor, Complex Cases will be first point of contact for students, or staff supporting students, who are at risk, in crisis or distress. The role will assist in the development and action of strategic mental health projects and provide resources to the University to assist in supporting student mental health. The Student Counsellor, Complex Cases has a key role in prioritising student contact within the Counselling Service.

To be successful you will need:

  • High level experience working in the Mental Health Sector supporting individuals with mental health conditions, particularly in mental health crisis.
  • Experience in assessment and treatment of mental health disorders.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with people in crisis, with disabilities and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction, work independently and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, including the ability to be innovative and creative in providing advice and generating solutions.
  • Good knowledge of and relationships with local community mental health services desirable.
  • Experience in developing and delivering mental health promotion resources, activities and programs to a range of target groups desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Post Graduate tertiary qualifications (Masters level or equivalent), coupled with extensive work experience.
  • Eligibility to register with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA, and/or the Australian Association of Social Work.

This position requires a valid Working with Children Check.
