About the role:

The Applications Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise in the selection, application, and support of pumping equipment and systems. This role supports both internal teams and external customers by delivering tailored solutions that meet performance, efficiency, and compliance requirements across a range of industries including water, wastewater, mining, and industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Support and Solution Design

  • Analyze customer specifications and site conditions to recommend suitable pump solutions
  • Prepare technical proposals, system layouts, and performance calculations
  • Assist with pump selection, sizing, and configuration using manufacturer software and tools

2. Customer Engagement and Support

  • Liaise with customers, consultants, and contractors to understand application needs
  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical support, including troubleshooting and commissioning advice
  • Deliver technical presentations, training sessions, and product demonstrations

3. Product and System Optimization

  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure optimal product performance
  • Evaluate system efficiency and recommend improvements or upgrades
  • Stay current with industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies

4. Project and Documentation Management

  • Support project delivery by preparing documentation such as datasheets, drawings, and manuals
  • Coordinate with project managers and service teams to ensure technical accuracy and timely delivery
  • Maintain detailed records of customer interactions, system designs, and technical decisions

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in pump selection, application engineering, or fluid handling systems
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic principles, system curves, and pump performance
  • Proficiency in pump selection software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and specifications

Desirable:

  • Experience in the water, wastewater, mining, or industrial sectors
  • Familiarity with Australian Standards and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of control systems, VSDs, and instrumentation related to pump systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
  • Additional training or certification in fluid dynamics or pump technology is advantageous
