About the Program:
LMA has entered into an arrangement with BAE, Saab and CoA (MIWS) for the execution of all Combat System Integration work related to the Aegis Surface Combatant fleet.
The agreement, called the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement or CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). The CSI-IPT evolves the current independently executing programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 under an umbrella enterprise organisation formed as a program of programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
Lockheed Martin Australia is seeking a highly experienced DDG Aegis Design Lead to support engineering changes for the Aegis Combat System aboard the Hobart Class Destroyers as part of the Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) Project. This role will lead a multidisciplinary team delivering system design, integration and assurance, ensuring the upgraded Combat System achieves full capability and compliance.
As the Aegis Design Lead, you'll be responsible for managing complex engineering changes within the Aegis system, leading the development of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), and providing critical technical direction across design, integration, production, and verification phases. You will collaborate closely with Systems Engineering, Ship Integration, Test, and Specialty Engineering teams to achieve system-wide assurance.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the development and coordination of Engineering Change Packs for Aegis-related changes.
- Execute Systems Engineering activities including requirements analysis, architecture definition, design and integration strategies.
- Provide design support through production, ship integration and test phases.
- Drive design assurance and system compliance in collaboration with safety, security and ILS disciplines.
- Lead development and refinement of Combat System requirements and VCRM, Functional and physical architectures, Product Breakdown Structures (PBS) and PLM artefacts
- Engage with Commonwealth stakeholders, industry partners, and support system development (maintenance, PHS&T, installation).
About you:
To be successful in securing this position, you will have demonstrated skills and experience within the below areas:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering and/or equivalent relevant experience in Defence or complex logistics projects.
- Extensive hands-on experience with the Aegis Combat System.
- Deep understanding of System-of-Systems integration, system architectures, and engineering lifecycle processes.
- Strong technical leadership and experience in managing engineering trade-offs using formal analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver across all systems engineering phases in complex defence programs.
- Expertise in risk mitigation, engineering governance, and quality assurance.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary Defence engineering environment.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide technical teams.
- An active NV-1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in integration, test and evaluation of combat systems on naval platforms.
- Familiarity with PLM tools (e.g. Windchill) and model-based systems engineering.
- Sound knowledge of current and emerging engineering industry standards and capabilities.
