Mookai Rosie Bi-Bayan, founded in the 1980s by Rose Richards ('Aunty Rosie'), is a leading health service provider dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from Cape York, NPA and Torres Strait Islander communities while in Cairns. Our unique Mookai Family Health (primary care services clinic) offers a range of services, including primary care services, midwifery-led antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, sexual health, chronic disease management, social and emotional wellbeing support, vaccinations, and health promotion. Our goal is to ensure that families have access to comprehensive and culturally sensitive healthcare, promoting their overall health and well-being during their stay.
About the role
The Medical Officer will deliver culturally safe, comprehensive, and holistic healthcare services to clients, supporting their physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. This role is responsible for the provision of medical care, health surveillance, and health promotion, while ensuring effective care coordination and timely referrals. The position operates within Mookai Rosie's strategic, governance, and accreditation frameworks to enhance health outcomes for individuals and families accessing the service.
Candidate selection criteria
- Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery and hold current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
- Registration with the Medical Board of Queensland.
- Current Fellowship with FRACGP or ACRRM
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, historical, and contemporary issues.
- Ability to engage respectfully and communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Proven capacity to deliver culturally safe services that reflect awareness of the social, emotional, and cultural determinants of health.
- Ability to perform comprehensive health assessments and plan, implement and evaluate clinical care and primary health care strategies.
- Knowledge and understanding of quality improvement processes and RACGP Standards.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence
