About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Kitchen Assistant to join our team. The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for assisting the chefs in preparing and packing meals, maintaining a clean and organised kitchen, and ensuring that all food safety and sanitation standards are met. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible and willing to adapt to tasks as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with general kitchen operational duties, including basic food preparation, dishwashing, cleaning, food storage and stock rotation.
  • Assist with the maintenance of stock levels, stock rotation, supplier orders and deliveries, and monitor the quality of food stock and meals where required.
  • Pack meals for distribution to drivers, ensuring correct quantities of meals are provided.
  • Support the general day-to-day functioning of the kitchen, including hygiene, safety and general maintenance.
  • In conjunction with the Chorus kitchen team, support the provision and maintenance of safe working conditions for all staff and volunteers.
  • Work in collaboration with chefs and volunteers to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective meal services.
  • Contribute towards the continuous review and improvement of internal processes in line with service delivery requirements and customer feedback.
  • Provide services in line with specified timeframes.
  • Assist team members in all aspects of kitchen duties and relieve staff of their duties as required.
  • Packing, delivery and unloading of stock to other local depots in a refrigerated van.

Qualifications:

  • C Class driver's licence with no restrictions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Previous experience working in a kitchen or food service environment preferred
  • Knowledge of HACCP food safety standards and sanitation guidelines preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 20 kilograms
  • Ability to work in a freezer environment for periods of time (PPE provided).
  • Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance and registration
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to apply for one prior to commencing employment)
  • Current First Aid Certificate with 12 months or less currency (or willing to apply)
