About The Role

In this role, you will be responsible for optimising the Dell PowerScale and Isilon environment following recent infrastructure upgrades, ensuring maximum performance, efficiency, and scalability. You will play a key role in supporting the organisation's petabyte-scale storage platform, which underpins critical Media & Entertainment workflows such as high-throughput media ingest, editing, archiving, and retrieval.


What You'll Do

  • Conduct a detailed technical audit of the storage environment, documenting current architecture, operational status, potential risks, and strategic recommendations.
  • Assess and optimise storage cluster configurations, including all-flash, archive, and legacy nodes.
  • Enhance PowerScale data services, including SmartPools, SnapshotIQ, SyncIQ, and tiering strategies.
  • Identify and resolve storage performance bottlenecks, addressing metadata efficiency, I/O, and protocol-level throughput (SMB/NFS).
  • Recommend architectural improvements to maximise storage performance, utilisation, and reliability.
  • Develop clear architecture diagrams and operational runbooks to support administration, troubleshooting, and routine storage management.
  • Provide capacity and growth forecasts with actionable recommendations to ensure scalable and efficient storage utilisation.
  • Produce comprehensive documentation, including implementation and maintenance guidance.
  • Deliver structured knowledge transfer sessions to ICT staff to enable ongoing management and operational continuity.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Extensive practical experience with Dell PowerScale and Isilon (OneFS 8.x/9.x).
  • Demonstrated capability in designing, managing, and optimising enterprise-level storage environments for high-performance applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of scale-out NAS architecture, storage tiering, and associated data services.
  • Skilled in documenting complex storage infrastructures and creating operational runbooks.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying technical insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python/Bash) for automation and data analysis is highly valued.
