About the Department
The Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service (CLP). This team forms part of the Specialty Services Directorate of the Mental Health Division at Austin Health. CLP is a tri-disciplinary team made up of medical, nursing and psychology staff that provides expert mental health assessment and interventions to general hospital consumers with concurrent mental health conditions. It also provides expert mental health advice, education, and support to general hospital staff in the care of consumers with concurrent mental health conditions and on mental health related topics, projects, policy, guidelines, and service development.
About the role
An exciting opportunity currently exists to join our Consultation Liaison Psychiatry team. You'll join a friendly and supportive team who genuinely enjoy their work and the contribution they make. The role is to provide care to consumers throughout Austin medical and surgical wards on all campuses.
A regular day will see you:
- Manage acute intoxication and withdrawal syndromes.
- Provide substitution therapies including methadone and buprenorphine preparations.
- Liaise with external services including Hamilton Centre and ADAS for advice and support to inpatients, as well as provision of community linkages on discharge, including referrals for detox, rehabilitation, and ongoing community-based care in a clinic setting
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in consumer care. You'll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:
- Professional qualification in a health-related discipline (psychology, nursing, social work, occupational therapy or speech pathology) with AHPRA registration (where applicable)
- Nurses must have a Post-Graduate Qualification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.
- Psychologists must be registered with a specialist endorsement in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology or Forensic Psychology.
- Social Workers: Eligibility for membership with Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
