About the Role
The Graduate Accountant plays an integral role in the finance team, including responsibility for the collection of Club revenues, providing critical accounting support to the wider finance team; whilst also providing processing support and advice to the Club's revenue generating departments.
The role will ensure financial integrity, quality, and availability of audit trails for all work performed.
The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills to support the core part of the role including exposure and managing relationships with the whole of Club and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, relevant, and timely debtor accounting records across both D365 F&O and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) invoicing and accounts. Including regular review and maintenance of the aged debtors report with timely communication and updates to senior management on aged debts.
- Proactive communication with Club debtors directly for outstanding debts and provide regular status updates on ageing debt.
- Support and assistance provided to the commercial operations team in raising invoices via the CRM, while providing regular reconciliations and updates regarding any errors in their invoicing. This includes review and reconciliation to Club partnership contracts.
- General invoicing and payment support and guidance provided to commercial department when required.
- Processing payment and receipt of all revenues across the Club.
- Management of Club refund policy and default debtors with commercial team with support from Finance Operations Manager.
- Maintaining accuracy and review of the CRM/D365 F&O integration, including liaising with 3rd party support where required.
- Responsible for all cash handling, management and requests across the Club.
- Reconcile and maintain accurate and timely bank reconciliations across all club bank accounts. Coordination of finance team members in the provision of required tasks and information to ensure accurate and timely bank reconciliations on weekly basis.
- Preparation of the Club cashflow statement with support from the Financial Accountant, reviewing for accuracy and reconciling to closing bank balances.
- Assist in month end processes with direction from the Financial Accountant, including responsibility for, but not limited to, applicable general ledger and balance sheet accounts – e.g. cash at bank, trade debtors, income in advance, and suspense accounts, while identifying and managing discrepancies.
- Provide support to wider finance team in processing general journals and transactions and assisting with reconciliation across various business units
- Support the financial accountant with management and updates to internal reporting including sub-committee and business partner reporting.
- Assist the Financial Accountant in processing Fixed Assets
- Assist in the management and reconciliation of Club credit cards, expense claims, and the Club Uber account.
- Accurate processing and management of Club partner 'contra' or in-kind arrangements.
- Assist the Finance Operations Manager in regular reconciliation of Club membership payments to AFL reporting.
- Reconciliation of Club event budgets and expectations to the general ledger with the Commercial Events team.
- Responsibility for the management and recording of club-wide corporate event, merchandise and Café internal transactions, including follow up and clarification to internal departments where required.
- Weekly 1864 Café sales reconciliations.
- Management and processing of the Australian Sports Foundation donations and acquittal process in conjunction with the Financial Accountant and Fundraising team.
- Contributing to process improvements within the finance function and monitor and report on internal controls where required.
- Support and assistance provided to the Accounts Payable Officer where required.
- Where required, assistance to the Financial Accountant with the Club's statutory reporting (ATO, ASIC, ABS).
- Provide assistance with and contribution to financial year-end processes including the external audit.
- Assist with other activities as directed by the Finance Operations Manager, including but not limited to, assistance at Club functions and match days where required, and ad hoc finance related projects.
Experience, Skills and Attributes
- Undergraduate Qualification in Accounting/Commerce related discipline
- Working towards a Chartered Accounting (CA) or Certified Public Accounting (CPA) qualification.
- Demonstrates a high level of precision and thoroughness in all work tasks.
- Intuitive in the use of accounting systems and CRM systems.
- Ability to read and interpret financial data and provide outputs for varying audiences.
- Demonstrated capability in Microsoft suite products, in particular excel; D365 F&O, EngageRM (CRM), Workday Adaptive (desirable, but not required).
- Awareness of confidentiality, integrity, and objectivity in accounting.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, effectively managing competing priorities whilst being adaptive to changing demands.
- Ability to solve problems.
- Customer first focus, building collaborative relationships with and providing support and advice to staff members throughout the Club.
- Highly organised, with focus on process discipline, efficiencies and financial accountability.
