Primary objective

Conduct competent professional assessments of individual prisoners' criminogenic risks and needs, contribute to offender

management plans and reports and facilitate group and individual treatment programs.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Undertake clinical assessments, including criminogenic risk and needs assessments, develop clinical formulations and

appropriate treatment plans, and write assessment and treatment reports for prisoners in the custody of NTCS.

2. Facilitate individual and/or co-facilitate group-based offence specific and offence related programs for prisoners as required.

3. Liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders on issues relevant to the management of offenders to ensure

coordinated case management.

4. Provide oversight, advice and support for administrative stream staff within Offender Services & Programs prison-based teams.

5. Apply sound theoretical knowledge in the development, delivery and evaluation of programs and services.

6. Be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team, participate in clinical supervision, peer supervision and ongoing professional

development and training.

7. Provide feedback on programs, assessments and reports as required and maintain accurate, legible and proficient client case

notes, records and statistics.

8. Carry out duties as requested by the Manager Offender Services and Programs.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work or behavioural sciences with eligibility for registration or membership with

relevant Australian Professional Associations.

2. Demonstrated understanding of the theories that underpin effective therapeutic and counselling interventions, and ability to

apply these to a diverse range of individuals and in group settings.

3. Demonstrated ability in the application of appropriate criminogenic risk/need assessments and the preparation of

comprehensive treatment/case management plans for individual clients.

4. Demonstrated high standard of written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues in a

succinct manner;

5. Interpersonal skills of a high order especially the ability to communicate effectively and interact with clients at all levels including

Indigenous Australians as well as other culturally diverse groups;

6. Demonstrated ability in professional practice; with particular emphasis on case management, direct client assessment and ability

to conduct group behaviour change interventions within a forensic setting.

7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, operating in a

complex therapeutic and legislative environment.

8. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support the

effective delivery of treatment programs.
