About the role
Eora College is seeking an experienced and culturally grounded Aboriginal Dance Teacher to deliver training in CUA30220 Certificate III in Community Dance, Theatre and Events, with a focus on contemporary, improvisational, and community-based performance.
This role supports students to develop skills in both contemporary and traditional Aboriginal dance within a culturally safe, inclusive, and community-led learning environment. The position plays a vital role in strengthening students' performance confidence, technical ability, and understanding of Aboriginal Cultural Protocols, while fostering collaboration with community partners.
About You
You are passionate about dance with deep cultural ties and lived experience as an Aboriginal person. Your expertise in Aboriginal dance is grounded in both traditional practices and contemporary expressions, supported by relevant industry qualifications or at least two years' experience. You bring a strong commitment to vocational education and training, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse educational and community settings. Your teaching style is flexible, inclusive, and responsive, and you are dedicated to fostering adult learning environments that are respectful, engaging, and culturally safe. You are collaborative by nature, thrive in team settings, and are driven by a desire to empower students and preserve cultural heritage through education.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Aboriginality (Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act of Candidates selected for an interview must provide Confirmation of Aboriginality documentation at or before interview.
- Qualification of a Diploma in Dance or Performing Arts or equivalent industry experience.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) or equivalent (see the candidate support document (here) for details).
- Have a minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching or performing in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander dance with a strong understanding of cultural protocols in a performing arts context.
- Knowledge of safe dance practices, performance preparation, and event coordination.
Highly Regarded but not required:
- Proven ability to teach CUA30220 Certificate III in Community Dance, Theatre and Events or similar.
- Qualification Certificate II or higher in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Arts.
- Experience working in community-focused performing arts projects.
- Skills in choreography, stage production or arts event management.
