Primary objective

Provide objective, expert advice and reports on existing and planned surface facilities and pipelines to support sustainable

operations and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and leading industry practice. Advise on policy development and

implementation and manage a small team in the delivery of timely services and oversee the quality of the work undertaken.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide technical expertise and advice to senior management for the assessment and regulation of petroleum

infrastructure service facilities and pipeline developments

1. Lead the preparation of a range of high-level documentation including assessment reports, ministerial briefs, statements

of reasons, compliance directions and prosecution briefs as required.

1. Establish, oversee and execute regulatory inspections for management and monitoring programs of petroleum surface

infrastructure and pipelines, taking into account current and emerging research, appropriate industry standards,

processes, guidelines and legislation.

1. Undertake the responsibilities of an appointed inspector under the Petroleum Act 1984, the Petroleum (Submerged Lands)
   
   Act (NT) 1981, the Energy Pipelines Act 1981 and the Geothermal Energy Act 2009.

2. Oversee and conduct investigations of incidents and accidents on petroleum, geothermal energy and energy pipeline/

facilities operations or undertake investigations into more complex incidents and make appropriate recommendations.

1. Provide constructive governance and leadership of a small team of professional staff by ensuring clear directions,

monitoring workflows, addressing performance issues in a timely manner, and providing mentoring and guidance.

1. Actively participate as a full member of the Petroleum Operations team and broader Energy Development team,

contributing innovative ideas and solutions to all aspects of business.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Tertiary degree in engineering or other field relevant to the energy pipeline and petroleum industries.

2. Demonstrated extensive industry experience in petroleum processing facilities and/or energy pipelines, in particular

technical and field experience related to the integrity of equipment and compliance with industry standards and related

regulations.

1. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of reports, briefing and

memorandums for both a technical and non-technical audience.

1. Proven ability to effectively communicate and negotiate outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.

2. Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and application of legislation, organising and conducting inspections and

undertaking incident investigations.

6. Demonstrated experience in team leadership and management of a small professional team, including providing clear

directions, monitoring workflows, providing mentoring and guidance and addressing performance issues in a timely

manner.

1. Demonstrated strong personal organisation skills flexibility with changing priorities and proven ability to meet deadlines.
