We're looking for a hands-on engineer with a unique mix of technical systems knowledge, data integration skills, and a passion for solving complex industrial problems. You'll work across client factories and industrial sites to help measure, monitor, and reduce resource consumption particularly in electricity, gas, water, steam, and compressed air systems.

You'll join a small, experienced team delivering energy, process, and data infrastructure projects across a wide range of industries. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys getting on site, understanding how things work, and building practical solutions that connect meters, machines, and data systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to assess utility systems, identify metering gaps, and gather technical information.
  • Design and implement end-to-end data collection systems from sensors and PLCs to cloud dashboards.
  • Configure and troubleshoot protocols such as Modbus, MQTT, BACnet, and industrial Ethernet/IP.
  • Integrate data into platforms such as Ignition, PostgreSQL, cloud IoT platforms, or custom tools.
  • Recommend and design electrical and mechanical metering solutions tailored to each site.
  • Assist with project planning, documentation, commissioning, and client handover.
  • Collaborate closely with data, software, and mechanical engineering teams.
  • Support continuous improvement and standardisation of our metering and integration frameworks.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Engineering background (electrical, mechatronic, systems, or similar)
  • 4+ years' experience in industrial automation, instrumentation, or energy systems

Solid working knowledge of:

  • SCADA/HMI platforms (preferably Ignition)
  • Protocols: Modbus (RTU/TCP), MQTT, OPC-UA, BACnet
  • Industrial hardware: meters, sensors, controllers, PLCs

  • Data systems: SQL databases, CSVs, cloud integrations

  • Comfortable working on site at manufacturing facilities and interpreting real-world systems

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability across hardware and software
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, able to work independently and in client-facing situations

Bonus Skills (Not Required but Helpful)

·       Experience with scripting or programming (Python, JavaScript, Node-RED, etc.)

·       Experience with MQTT broker setup and certificate-based security

·       Familiarity with energy efficiency or sustainability projects

·       Experience creating dashboards or data visualisation tools

·       Knowledge of electrical standards, switchboards, or industrial design
