Job Description
The Student Progress Officer Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the Intervention Team function and ensuring consistent, high-quality support is provided to students who are at risk of not meeting course progress requirements. This role provides leadership to the Student Progress Officers, ensures compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements and drives continuous improvement in intervention strategies and processes. The Team Leader is accountable for reporting on student outcomes, managing workflow across the team, and building strong collaboration with academic and student services stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
1. People Management and Leadership
- Lead, supervise and support Student Progress Officers to deliver high quality case management and student support
- Set clear performance expectations, monitor outcomes, and provide coaching feedback and professional development opportunities
- Manage workload allocation, ensuring balanced caseloads and timely follow up of student matters
- Promote a culture of accountability, student-centred service and continuous improvement within the team
2. Reporting and Data Management
- Monitor student progress data to identify trends, risks and areas for improvement
- Prepare reports on intervention activity, student outcomes and compliance metrics for senior management
- Use data insights to inform decision making and drive improvements in intervention strategies
3. Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure all intervention processes, meetings and course variations are managed in line with policies, procedures and regulatory obligations
- Oversee the accuracy, consistency and timeliness of documentation across the team
- Act as the escalation point for complex or high-risk student cases, ensuring appropriate resolution and compliance
4. Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with the wider Operations Team, academic staff, compliance, wellbeing and other internal stakeholders to support a coordinated approach to student success
- Represent the Intervention function in internal forums and working groups
- Provide advice and guidance to staff on intervention processes, compliance requirements and best practice approaches
5. Continuous Improvement
- Review and refine intervention frameworks, processes and tools to improve effectiveness and efficiency
- Lead initiatives to enhance early identification and support of students at risk
- Contribute to broader student success and retention strategies across the organisation
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a leadership or management role within student services, case management, or academic support
- Strong understanding of course progress monitoring, intervention requirements and compliance obligations in the education sector
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, manage performance and build staff capability
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
- Strong organisational and analytical skills, with experience using data to inform decision making and reporting
- Proficiency in student management systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to manage sensitive student matters with discretion and professionalism
