Quality Manager – Structural Steel & Major Projects

Join a people first team where career growth is real.

You'll be supported by the outgoing Quality Manager who has received an internal promotion, gain your own Administrator, and step into a culture built on care, respect and collaboration.

The Company

Genis Steel is a steel fabrication and construction company with an excellent local and national reputation, and is  sought after for large construction projects. The combined experience of the ownership team is of the richest in the country, spanning all facets of steel fabrication and construction.

Strengthened by significant tonne cranage capacity, CNC production machines that utilise the very latest technologies, and a team that cares about quality, Genis has become the 'go to' steel fabrication and construction supplier for large SA defence, commercial and industrial projects that require the highest quality fabrication and construction standards.

The South Australian Managing Director has harnessed a great deal of industry respect; known for being a highly ethical operator, who places an emphasis on building and maintaining a people centric culture. Core business values include providing the highest standard of steelwork available, producing the best quality product, and supporting the development of a highly competent and cohesive team, ensuring employees feel happy and live balanced lives. Having a culture that people want to join, develop in, and don't want to leave; as well as harnessing the ongoing respect and commitment of the most reliable sub-contractor base; has been the cornerstone to this company's success.

Genuine care for others has become a shared value throughout the organisation, whereby colleagues show active support for one another. If a colleague needs help, whether personally or professionally, the team rally to support. This has undeniably created a unique workplace culture rarely seen to such an extent within the realm of steel fabrication and construction.

The Role

Due to the previous Quality Manager recently receiving an internal promotion within another part of the business, this position has become available, and we are seeking someone to uphold the excellent QSE standards already established.

With continued growth of the business, management has opted to simultaneously employ an Administrator, who will be mentored by you as the incoming Quality Manager, and will support you to maintain the excellent reputation the organisation has across the QSE spectrum.

With the previous Quality Manager remaining employed by the business, there will be a smooth handover and continued support to see that you are well inducted into this business critical role.

As the Quality Manager, you will bring your expertise in Quality, and on the job broaden your experience to include oversight of safety and environment. With the support of the Administrator, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Participating in quality system management reviews;
  • Participating in tender or contract reviews as requested and making recommendation on QSE related matters;
  • Developing and implementing procedures and work instructions;
  • The preparation of Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans;
  • Preparing and implementing inspection and test checklists;
  • Acting on any non-conformance that does not meet with contract requirements;
  • Controlling and issuing management system documentation;
  • Representing the company in discussion with the client on quality, safety, and environmental related matters as requested;
  • Preparing and conducting internal and surveillance audits to ensure all work and services are in accordance with the Business Management System;
  • In conjunction with the Manager(s) / Managing Director, conducting vendor assessments and making recommendations of results;
  • Updating and developing safe operating procedures;
  • The maintenance and safe keeping of "Measurement and Inspection" equipment;
  • Undertaking inductions with new staff;
  • Developing specific training for internal staff as required;
  • Developing work method statements for individual projects;
  • Monitoring work practises on the factory floor and subcontractors on site;
  • Maintaining appropriate records;
  • Reporting on QSE matters at production meetings;
  • Attending site meetings as requested;
  • Conducting safety meetings;
  • Reporting details of non-conforming work and/or supplies that will allow accurate cost statements to be prepared;
  • Recommending changes which could: reduce cost; increase productivity; improve quality;
  • Other tasks as directed by the Managing Director.

Requirements

Essential to the hiring process we are seeking someone that can demonstrate a genuine care for colleagues and enjoys achieving goals as part of a collaborative team; along with the following:

  • Quality experience within either steel, manufacturing, construction or defence.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS 4801, ISO 14001.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent problem solving and people skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian legislative requirements.

Please note that to be considered for this role, due to the exposure to defence work, you are required to have been an Australian Citizen for a minimum of five (5) years.
