The Union Hotel Ascot Vale is a venue full of surprises. Built in 1878, our Heritage-listed prominent corner hotel in the heart of Melbourne's racing precinct has always been a popular place to catch up with friends. We pride ourselves on our great food options, icy cold beverages and outstanding customer service, and are now looking for an experienced Head Chef to lead our team on a full time basis.

The Position:

We are seeking a passionate professional that is energetic, organised, and self-motivated with strong leadership qualities. We are looking for someone who not only maintains our great quality and consistency, but who also brings their knowledge of contemporary trends, modern twists, and flair. In this role it will be your responsibility to organise and run the daily operations of the kitchen.

The role:

  • Lead the team, ensuring food preparation, cooking, and presentation is consistently high.
  • Supervise staff and coordinate all activities pertaining to food preparation.
  • Plan, develop and cost menus. Ordering, receiving, and checking of deliveries and other stock.
  • Lead and teach other kitchen employees in the preparation, cooking and presentation of food.
  • Rostering kitchen employees.
  • Strong leadership, administration and Management control

The Person:

  • Reporting to the General Manager you will be able to work a rotating roster over 5 days including lunch and dinner.
  • You must be passionate about food and able to lead by example, with drive, enthusiasm, and attention to detail.
  • You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to motivate and develop staff, and be adept at maintaining a calm demeanor.
  • You will have many years experience in a similar role.
  • You must have the ability to work under pressure

The successful applicant will have several years' experience in a similar role, be creative, inspirational & dedicated to the ongoing growth & development of the kitchen.

The team culture is important, we already have a strong and well-knit team, so you must lead by example and be adept at maintaining our positive team environment. Experience in leading, training, & menu development are essential.
