Head of Guitar & Contemporary Music
Melbourne Grammar School is seeking a Head of Guitar & Contemporary Music for our South Yarra campus commencing Term 1, 2026. The Head of Guitar & Contemporary Music position has been created in response to the continued growth and success of the Music Department.
The Head of Guitar and Contemporary Music will be required to oversee the guitar and contemporary / jazz programs from years 7-12 over both Wadhurst and Senior School campuses. This includes managing and developing the relevant ensemble/s. The Head of Guitar and Contemporary Music will also be required to teach individual instrumental lessons across our South Yarra campus on guitar. The incumbent is required to maintain a technical knowledge at the forefront of the field of instrumental education, pedagogy, repertoire, work as a member of a small team and carry out work in a competent, effective, and efficient manner. The candidate should be experienced in teaching a wide range of guitar styles (classical and contemporary).
This position is a full-time, school term time position, with expectations to work outside of general school hours when required.
You will:
- Teach classroom music from Year 7 to VCE
- Teach individual lessons on guitar
- Assist or direct (where required) with rehearsals, performances, concerts, assemblies and other school events (in particular the co-curricular jazz bands, VCE & guitar ensembles
- Participate in orchestra tours, school musicals, music camps, and other extra-curricular activities, as required
- Support and manage the time commitments of guitar instrumental tutors
- Prepare students for solo performances, VCE and AMEB examinations up to diploma level where appropriate
- Co-ordinate student excursions and incursions
VIT registration, or the ability to gain VIT registration, is essential.
