The Opportunity

Are you a seasoned commercial leader who thrives at the nexus of national security and complex industrial programs? Do you excel at providing the strategic counsel that shapes international partnerships and drives the success of a multi-decade enterprise?

We are representing a central player in Australia's landmark AUKUS submarine program. They are seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Manager to provide expert advisory, lead a dedicated team, and manage the critical commercial relationships that will underpin the success of this nation-building endeavour.

This is not a back-office contracts role; you will be a front-line commercial strategist, shaping outcomes, managing significant risk, and building the commercial capability required for a program of unprecedented scale and complexity.

What You Will Drive

• Provide senior strategic commercial advice to program leadership, shaping critical decisions on major contracts, international partnerships, and commercial risk.
• Lead the commercial management of critical international and domestic partnerships, ensuring all obligations are met and value is maximised for the program.
• Develop and implement robust commercial strategies and governance frameworks to ensure compliance, control costs, and drive positive outcomes.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the commercial team, building the capability required to deliver on this multi-decade program.
• Drive the commercial aspects of major bids and proposals, ensuring all new agreements are strategically sound and commercially robust.
• About You

About you

• A minimum of 10 years' senior experience in a commercial, contracts, or legal advisory role within a major program environment (defence, aerospace, or complex infrastructure highly regarded).
• Deep expertise in developing and managing complex contracts, with a proven ability to resolve high-stakes issues and drive positive commercial outcomes.
• Proven ability to provide strategic commercial counsel and sound judgment to senior leadership on critical issues.
• A master negotiator and communicator who builds trust and credibility with international partners, government stakeholders, and internal leadership.
• Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Commerce, Procurement, or a related discipline.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a high-level Australian Department of Defence security clearance.
