Primary objective

Responsible for the security, safety and protection of all staff, patients and visitors as well as the security and protection of property and

assets on the Royal Darwin Hospital Campus.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Proactively identify report and take appropriation action to resolve issues and reduce risks that affect the safety and security of the

organisation or individuals in a timely manner.

2. Provide a customer focused service, working closely with all stakeholders to follow Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) policies and

procedures and participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and risk management programs.

3. Assist the Security Manager and Supervisors provide coaching and direction to Security Officers, lead incident responses and perform

Chief Fire Warden Duties.

1. Maintain all Security Department records including shift logs, incident registers, patient property and lost and found property records.

2. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces; including, comply with all Chief Health Officer Directions as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated sound coaching skills and experience, preferably in a security environment, with a very good working knowledge of

contemporary security standards and relevant Northern Territory (NT) legislation, including fire safety and WHS principles.

2. Demonstrated good critical incident management skills, knowledge and attitudes – including thinking clearly, prioritising actions and

making appropriate decisions under pressure.

3. Advanced interpersonal communication skills to de-escalate situations and manage aggression - including discretion, diplomacy,

negotiation and conflict resolution skills and an ability to respond appropriately to the complexities of diverse cultures.

4. Physically fit with no mobility limitations – ability to attend to incidences across campus quickly and very good ability to manage

aggressive behaviour including physical restraint and defending self and others.

5. Experience working effectively in a team environment.

6. Sound written/incident reporting skills and computer literacy with the ability to use administrative and operational software.

7. Ability to participate in a 24 hour a day 365 days per year rotational roster.

8. Hold a current driver's licence.

Desirable

1. Knowledge and understanding of the relevant sections of Australian Standard AS Security for Healthcare Facilities Procedures

Guide and the Mental Health Act.

2. Current NT Security Licence (Certificate II)
