The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity is available for a Public Health Registrar (Training Position) to join the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research team at Burnet
In this role you will undertake the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) Advanced Training Program in a highly innovative public health training environment. This placement will provide experience across a range of public health practice areas including translational and operational research, program design and implementation, policy development, and teaching.
You will also:
- Gain supervised training from Fellows of the AFPHM, RACP, and experienced public health mentors.
- Contribute to project work and research that impacts health in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
- Develop skills in epidemiology, public health medicine, and community-based practice.
- Participate in capacity building, teaching, and policy development initiatives.
- Adapt your training program to align with AFPHM requirements and personal interests.
This is a 12-month fixed term position. We are open to candidates seeking part-time and full-time option FTE). You will have flexible working hours as well as part time working from home options. Please refer to the position description for full details here:

Let's talk about you
The following criteria are essential requirements:
- Current general medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- At least three years post-graduate medical experience (may include one year of MPH study).
- A Master of Public Health (or equivalent degree) covering AFPHM core discipline areas, or current enrolment in final year MPH.
- Formal assessment by RACP as eligible to enter the Public Health Medicine Advanced Training Program (or application pending).
- Experience in public health, infectious diseases, or epidemiology.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality data.
The following are preferable but not essential:
- Experience working in community-based settings.
- Experience working with vulnerable or marginalised populations.
- Capacity to spend time in rural/regional Victoria and international locations.
