About the Department
The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
Financial Services Division
Design and implement financial management principles, processes and systems to ensure that the Department and its managers in central office, regions, schools and statutory authorities have the necessary support to execute their financial management responsibilities
School Finance and Resources Branch
Manage the efficient and effective allocation of resources to government and non-government schools, congruent with the Government's priorities and school education reform agenda within the Infrastructure and Finance Services Group strategic planning and budget framework.
Role
The role will be to assist in the co-ordination of the schools' finance and resources branch support teams to strengthen the assistance received in schools regarding financial management.
It will also require the provision of support and guidance to schools in relation to financial management and business processes. The support teams are a key element of the Department's three lines of defence integrity model which relies on the financial controls exercised by principals and school councils at the school level as the first level of defence against financial loss. This role will require a strong knowledge of systems, financial management within the school environment as well as policies, procedures and the school governance requirements.
The role has a major emphasis on:
; The provision of advice to schools on business processes, department policies and best practice internal controls as they relate to school financial management.
;The provision of assistance to schools to resolve complex financial transaction issues processed via CASES21.
; The development and delivery of professional development programs relating to financial management in schools.
;The provision of advice and guidance to schools on the interpretation of school financial information.
;The development and improvement of financial policies and practices as they relate to schools' finances.
The role supports schools throughout the state as required. Travel, including overnight stays, may be required in fulfilling the role. A vehicle is provided for this purpose.
Attributes
The successful applicant will have a strong knowledge of systems used within the school environment, focusing on CASES21 and the Student Resource Package (SRP).
They will need to have a customer focus to delivery high quality outcomes to the schools.
They will also be required to solve complex problems within the school environment, an eye for detail to identity gaps and be able solve complex problems.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Expert knowledge of schools' systems and a strong understanding of the Student Resource Package (SRP). The ability to assess the level of support that a school requires as it relates to strategic financial management. Experience in a school environment is highly regarded. A drivers licence is essential.
