About the Opportunity

Campbelltown & Camden Hospital is currently seeking an Occupational Therapy Deputy Head of Department to join their dynamic team. This role entails crucial responsibilities aimed at enhancing the efficiency and quality of Occupational Therapy services within the healthcare facility.

Working closely with the Head of Department, the role involves a multifaceted approach to management, leadership, and development within Occupational Therapy department at Camden and Campbelltown Hospitals.

The Deputy Head of Occupational Therapy oversees competing clinical, operational, and strategic obligations, while upholding professional standards and clinical governance. They are a key conduit and support to the Occupational Therapy leadership and clinical team, whilst managing a small clinic caseload.

Emphasising staff support and guidance through periods of organisational change is a key part of this role. Collaboration is integral, not only within the local facility but also across the broader South Western Sydney Local Health District , fostering improvements in services, standards, and quality district-wide.

This position's focus on site service coordination, professional standards management, and commitment to safety and quality embodies the hospital's dedication to delivering exceptional care.

What you'll be doing

The Deputy Head of Department is responsible for assisting with the management of the Occupational Therapy. This includes providing clinical and administrative leadership, setting professional standards, workforce planning, clinical practice development and the development and implementation of safety and quality processes. In addition this position would take on responsibility as the Acting Head of Department when the Head of Department is absent or on leave.

Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals, part of the South Western Sydney Local Health District, work together to provide comprehensive healthcare services to the Macarthur region.

Campbelltown Hospital, a leading tertiary facility, offers a wide range of services including cardiology, maternity, palliative care, respiratory medicine, emergency medicine, and aged-care services. It also features specialised Mental Health and Cancer facilities. Camden Hospital complements these services by specialising in care for older persons with acute or chronic health conditions, including rehabilitation, palliative care, geriatric evaluation and management, and psychogeriatric care.

The hospitals share a close-knit, community-focused team dedicated to delivering safe, quality, and compassionate care. The ongoing multi-million dollar redevelopment at Campbelltown Hospital will further enhance its capabilities, introducing advanced equipment and amenities.

Together, these sister hospitals ensure that the diverse needs of the community are met with excellence and innovation in healthcare.

  • Recognised Degree in Occupational Therapy or other qualification deemed appropriate by the employer, with registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Extensive clinical specialty experience including demonstrated advanced knowledge of hospital access and patient flow and management of a diverse range of occupational therapy caseloads.
  • Demonstrated excellent skills and experience in leadership and management, including experience with financial, risk, staff supervision and workforce management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and ability to implement evidence based practice.
  • Demonstrated leadership, skills and experience in the planning, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement, research and service development activities.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and time management skills and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
