Head of Communications and Stakeholder Relations

Position purpose

Lead an integrated strategic communications team to drive community, media and government engagement, building our brand, strengthening our policy impact and key relationships.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communications, media and government relations strategies and campaigns to advance community engagement, policy and advocacy goals.
  • As part of an integrated strategy, build trusted relationships with journalists, political offices and other stakeholders including public sector and community leaders.
  • Lead stewardship of AMPLIFY's brand, maintaining rigorous internal processes to ensure its consistency, quality and creativity.
  • Manage proactive and reactive media engagement and issues management and oversee media releases, opinion pieces, speeches and digital content.
  • Represent the organisation in external meetings and public forums.
  • Lead, coach and drive performance in the communications and engagement team.

Skills and Experience

We're looking for a savvy, values-aligned comms and stakeholder relations professional who is motivated by making a positive impact on the issues that matter.

  • Passion for driving meaningful outcomes through media and communications, with significant experience (10 years +) in media, communications or government relations, preferably in journalism, political offices, or social policy or advocacy roles.
  • Sound political judgement and a strong understanding of the Australian policy and media environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal and strategic communications skills, with a high attention to detail and a drive for quality and consistency.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, high-profile issues, deliver strategic advice and influence decision-makers.
  • Collaborative and flexible team player with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including ability to flexibly manage resources and coach and mentor team members to drive high performance.
  • Capacity to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities.
  • Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism.
